Charlie Chaplin

Charlie Chaplin was born April 16, 1889 and died on December 25, 1977. His birth place was in Walworth, England. His parents were both in the entertainment business. Charlies parents split when he was very young. After his parents split he lived with his mother where he attended The Archbishop Temples for boys. His mother, Hannah Chaplin, soon died in an Asylum . Charlie preformed a comedy that is really well known because of how he dressed. In one of his autobiographies Charlie tell how he just picked out some baggy pants, really big shoes and a cane:
"I had no idea what makeup to put on. I did not like my get-up as the press reporter [in Making a Living]. However on the way to the wardrobe I thought I would dress in baggy pants, big shoes, a cane and a derby hat. I wanted everything to be a contradiction: the pants baggy, the coat tight, the hat small and the shoes large. I was undecided whether to look old or young, but remembering Sennett had expected me to be a much older man, I added a small mustache, which I reasoned, would add age without hiding my expression. I had no idea of the character. But the moment I was dressed, the clothes and the makeup made me feel the person he was. I began to know him, and by the time I walked on stage he was fully born." With this he influenced many comedies in the style of dress. He did so well that he started to direct and edit his own films. In 1917 Charlie was offered $670,000 to produce 12 two-reel comedies. During this time America had joined with the Allies in World War 1. He participated in the speeches to convince people to buy Liberty bonds. His movie called The Great Dictator was a film about Adolf Hitler. This was Charlie Chaplin's first dialogue picture. He was awarded for The Great Dictator. Charlie received an Oscar for The Academy Award for Original Music Score and two Honorary Academy Awards. Stan Laurel had many similarities as Charlie Chaplin did.Charlie and Stan Laurel were both comedian actors. Their parents both worked as actors. Both Charlie and Stan came to the United States through the Karno Tour. In 1976 Charlie made his last and final film. This was called The Women of Paris, because of Charlies age during this movie he found it very difficult to speak his lines. Charlie Chaplin died at the age of 88. He was a great actor and film maker.
